3 Tips for Letting Go…
Summertime is the perfect time to kick back and just…LET GO!
Let go of negative energy.
Let go of rushing around and accomplishing little.
Let go of grudges and arguments.
Let go of holding on.
Let go of over-thinking, over-planning, over-extending.
Let go of perfection.
When you let go, you create space to allow in what is now and what is next. That is a beautiful thing because that extra wiggle room for possibility is like waving a magic wand in your life. It is your ticket and your permission slip to step into being not just happy, but whole. Letting go flips the switch and changes your dialogue with others and with yourself. Ready to practice this?
- Reverse engineer: The next time you have a negative thought or find yourself overthinking, reverse your language. EXAMPLE: You are hosting a dinner or an event for business and you are feeling fearful that XYZ person or people that you invited will be negative and ruin the moment. Your thoughts are so consuming that you are not enjoying preparing for the event or hosting it. #TIP: Meet that attendee or attendees where they are now. In other words, give them a specific task to be responsible for, put them in charge of running a part of the event. LET GO of what was before, it is creating a story in your head that may or may not be true. If you are including these folks in your arrangements, then include them with your head and your heart, involve them in the process by giving them a piece of the responsibility. If they don’t follow through, next time alter your list or speak to them directly about your concerns. After all, holding on to negative thoughts and over-planning outcomes is robbing you of successfully accomplishing your goals…let go so that you can give others the chance to step up and you can all experience what actually IS happening in the moment.
- Integrate the wins: You may be holding on tighter to everything in your life if you feel like you have not somehow accomplished or completed whatever that task is. Instead of focusing on the finish line, focus on your daily successes and celebrate those. At the end of each day make a list of what went well and practice letting go of the things that did not. Where and how can you access more of the wins? How can you celebrate them?
- Do a mental dump: Visualize that you have a giant beach bag and that you can fill that beach bag with all the concerns, fears, blocks, negativity, and what if’s that you currently have in your life. You are headed to the beach, so envision that you are carrying this very, very heavy bag with you into the car and off to the shore. When you arrive at the beach you will be carrying this bag of mental overload with you to your chair. What are you thinking about as you do this? The bag is really heavy and in it you have the weight of your world. What would be different in your life if you could somehow release what was in the bag…all of it…right now? Would you be able to accomplish more, would you feel free and light? Can you see yourself actually taking action on the things that you have been most stuck on? Now picture yourself walking to the ocean and emptying that beach bag of mental baggage out into the ocean. One fear, block, concern, worry, or negative sabotage at a time is being sent away. Your bag is now empty. What do you do now that you have let go? What is now and what is next in your life?
