Sunset 2 Sunrise Launches in Northern New Jersey
September 14th Fundraiser at Artisan Kitchen & Bar will Raise Money to Empower Women in Transition Following Divorce
Northern New Jersey, N.J., July 21, 2017 — Sunset 2 Sunrise (S2S) will mark its official launch in Northern New Jersey with a fundraising event on September 14, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at Artisan Kitchen & Bar in Hawthorne, N.J. The New Jersey-based non-profit and 501c3 organization is dedicated to supporting women after divorce.
Helen M. Dukhan, founder and president of S2S, has established a foundation that helps divorced women independent of their roles as mother, parent, ex-wife or someone reentering the workforce. As a seasoned divorce attorney, Dukhan saw firsthand that while divorce may be difficult, it is when the process is over that women often experience the greatest trauma.
“Divorce now ranks as the number one factor linked with suicide in major U.S. cities,” said Dukhan. “Newly divorced women often struggle to not only support themselves and their families, but to pick up the pieces of their shattered self-esteem. We focus all of our efforts on these women as individuals, empowering them to redefine and transform their lives.”
The S2S mission is to provide financial assistance for counseling, so that the 80 percent of women who lose their health insurance post-divorce do not have to choose between what may be life-saving therapy and paying household bills.
What makes S2S a rarity among nonprofit organizations is that it also uses funds to gift clients with a professional photo shoot, complete with a hair and makeup “makeover.” Each woman goes home with a framed portrait and digital images to use on business and dating websites.
“Most women throw out or take down their family photos after divorce, even if they do not include their ex-spouse, because they are painful reminders of a different time,” said Dukhan. “They are left staring at bare walls, which adds to their feelings of isolation, anxiety and depression. The photo shoot will help them feel beautiful, and the new photo for their home will serve as a reminder that they are supported and cared for at a time when they need it the most.”
The September 14 launch party will bring together individuals from across New Jersey and New York to celebrate the power of community. Nationally renowned Transition Coach, Randi Levin, will be the Honoree Keynote Speaker, and guests will enjoy cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, live entertainment, a tricky tray and a 50/50 raffle. All proceeds will support S2S’ services. For more information, sponsorship opportunities or to purchase tickets, visit www.sunset2sunrise.org/launch-party.
